The Zaw Productions Tunes Guide
Last Updated: 1 August 1998

This is intended as a comprehensive guide to all the Zaw Productions
tunes that will be made available in the High Voltage SID Collection
(HVSC) and will detail all the information and background behind each
of the tunes. Please note that as new tunes are composed on the C64
by me, they will placed in the HVSC, but there is a waiting list for new
files, so please be patient. Any files marked ## are due to be added
once the demo or game with the music in appears. Special thanks to
Jason Mackenzie (Kenz) of Binary Zone PD for porting over the initial
batch for me in the Dark Ages before I got an X1541!

The guide refers to Zaw Production numbers such as Zaw #1 and this is
in keeping with when the music demos and/or game music came out on
the C64, as a Zaw Production. The guide is in chronological order of
Zaw Production, and all the other stuff such as Zaw Disk menu tunes
and unused and rare ones at the end.

Each tune also has a figure in brackets which
indicates the tune length in minutes and seconds - and for tunes that
loop is the first loop ONLY..) Note also that any tunes in the guide
marked ## have been finished, but will not be available until the
appropriate demo or game has been completed.

Pre-Zaw Productions

I did do one or two tunes before I officially started Zaw Productions,
most notably TV Themes 1, which had two famous UK TV themes, from
'This Morning' and 'The Man With The Stick', a small part of the
programme 'Vic Reeves Big Night Out'. These were done around March
1991, two months before Zaw Productions officially came to life.

Zaw #1 - Indie Hits 1 - released 1991

Blue Monday (1991 Megamix) (10:58), - a cover of New Order's classic
single. Over ten minutes long and remixed.
The Only One I Know (Original Mix) (3:49) - a cover of The Charlatans'
song. This version is almost the same as the original.
Tragedy For You (Dumbfounded Mix) (5:28) - a cover of a Front 242
single. This was another remix.

Zaw #2 - Indie Hits 2 - released 1991

What Time Is Love? (Base Mix) (9:18) - a remix of the classic KLF
single. Note how I used two channels for the bass a lot of the time
because the bassline of the original was awesome!
Cubik (Cuboids And Cubes Mix) (7:54), Transmission (Instrumental
Mix) (3:32). Cover versions of 808 State and Joy Division respectively.
The Cubik remix was mainly based around the original single version,
and Transmission is almost a copy of the original.

Zaw #3 - Indie Hits 3 - released 1991

Tune #1: Pro Gen (20th Mix), (8:57) - A remix of The Shamen's
popular hit, often miscalled 'Move Any Mountain'! The reason I called it
the 20th mix was cos of a magazine article which said there were 19
mixes of this song at the time.
Tune #2: Biting My Nails (Bitten Mix) (11:31) - A remix of Renegade
Soundwave's bass-heavy club tune, and so again I resorted to two
channel bass some of the time to get the 'feel' over. A version of this
original tune was used also in a Nintendo Gameboy advert.
Tune #3: Wise Up Sucker (Blast Mix) (7:02) - A remix of Pop Will Eat
Itself's classic single complete with slides a plenty. I mainly used the
superior Youth 12" remix as inspiration.

Zaw #4 - Album Sampler - released 1991

Tune #1: Gun Run (5:45) - an early 7" version of a tune later to appear
in the original 'Quadraped Tearaways' demo.
Tune #2: Into The Grey: (4:39) same as 'Gun Run'.

Zaw #5 - Merry Christmas I - released 1991

Tune #1: We Wish You A Merry Christmas (1:46) - a traditional
Christmas song remixed by me.
Tune #2: Good King Wenscelas (1:55) - another traditional Christmas
thing.
Tune #3: Walking In A Winter Wonderland (1:21) - a boppy version of
an old Christmas tune. Can't recall who did it originally.
Tune #4: When Santa Got Stuck Up The Chimney (1:15) - yet another
traditional Christmas song.
Tune #5: The Twelve Days Of Christmas (3:07) - you guessed it!

Zaw #6 - Music Select I - released 1991

Music Select 1 Ingame tune (2:21), the ingame tune, which has parts
of the Flash Gordon music by Rob Hubbard and Love Missile F1-11 by
Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
Music Select 1 Hiscore tune (1:40) is the high score tune, a part cover
of 'Shall We Take A Trip' by Northside.
Music Select 1 Various has the ingame tune (2:02), the game over tune
(0:07) and the title tune (2:33)

Zaw #7 - Ocean Loader 4 Remix - released 1992

The remix is (3:08), and this is a remix of Jonathan Dunn's Ocean
Loading theme used from 1988-1992. Parts of this also appear in the
Jonathan Dunn Megamix (see later.)

Zaw #8 - Quadraped Tearaways - released 1992

The original and rare Quadraped Tearaways demo - infact I only
distributed 20 numbered copies before I withdrew the demo from
availability in February 1996 - so from then until now the music
remained unheard. The six tracks on here make up the first of this
series: The Wrong Side Of Bed (7:10), Aural Ambience Attack
(8:06), Angelic Hell For Halves (7:27), Gun Runner (8:30), Into The
Grey Matter (11:29) and Hope In A Nuclear World (3:49). Oh, by the
way, the spelling mistake with 'Quadraped' is DELIBERATE. It was
simply meant to confuse people with dictonaries, hehe!

Zaw #8R - Quadraped Tearaways (Binary Zone Special Remix Version)
- released 1994

This was a special remixed version of the original 'Quadraped
Tearaways' demo (Zaw #8) done two years after the original and rare
release. It also ended up on The Shoot Em Up Destruction Set (see
Zaw #35 -#39) as an extra program. The six mixes are: The Wrong
Side Of Bed (Ouch Mix) (8:29), Aural Ambience Attack
(Interplanatary Mix) (6:47), Angelic Hell For Halves (The Other Half
Mix) (7:42), Gun Runner (Killing Gunshot Mix) (7:48), Into The Grey
Matter (Evil Mix) (15:07) and Hope In A Nuclear World (We Want World
Peace Mix) (3:51).

Zaw #9 - Zarjaz 3 - released 1992

I originally composed this is a short tune (2:36) to go with any little
'notes' I'd send people along with their hacks on tape or disk, but as I
liked the tune in the end it was placed on its own little demo. Zarjaz 1
and 2 never were completed (maybe one day I will go back and do
them.)

Zaw #11 - Music Select 2 - released 1992

This has 7 tunes, they are the title (3:47), get ready (0:15), game over
(0:26), high score (1:01), ingame 1 (2:22), ingame 2 (1:59) and lose a
life tune (0:05) respectively. Tune #6 (ingame 2) was inspired by
'Theme From Narc' by Pixies, and the Narc arcade machine!

Zaw #12 - Thalamusic 1992 - released 1992

The long remix (7:36), from scratch of Rob Hubbard's awesome
Sanxion loading theme (which I still think is the best C64 tune ever!).

Zaw #13 - Football Tunes - released 1992

This contains all these football tunes:
Tune #1: Here We Go (0:38) - standard footy song, ruined by Everton
FC as their 1985 FA Cup Final song.
Tune #2: We Will Follow The City (0:25) - another footy standard,
although you can substitute Man City for the club of your choice.
Tune #3: You're Going To Get Your F*****g Head Kicked In (0:15) - A
hooligan chant that surfaced rather nastily in the 80's, especially at
West Ham, Millwall and Manchester Utd!
Tune #4: Blue Moon (aka 5-1, we beat United 5-1) (0:51) - Although a
50's song originally, Manchester City fans took it to their hearts around
1990 and made the song their own. Check out the flexidisc by The
Barmy Army, complete with commentary samples from the infamous
Man City 5 Man Utd 1 win on 23 September 1989 (one of the happiest
days of my life, obviously.)
Tune #5: Oh When The Blues Go Marching In (0:41) - An old
community song, transformed by Souhampton FC into their original
chant. Often used by other teams by substituting Saints with their club
nickname.
Tune #6: Saint And Greavsie (0:30) - Theme tune to their TV
programme and also ITV's World Cup Coverage of 1986.
Tune #7: Peter Reid (He's Got No Hair But We Don't Care) (0:41) -
Refers to the ex- Man City manager and his lack of hair, a lot of people
substitute this for their almost token balding player.
Tune #8: You're Supposed To Be At Home (0:20) - one of a variation
on this theme. Others include Is That All You Bring Away?, What The
F*****g Hell Was That? And of course the one to sing to Leeds United
supporters, What's It Like To Shag A Sheep?
Tune #9: In Your Liverpool Slums (0:30) - A rather nasty chant which
was directed to Liverpool fans in the 80's and still surfaces occasionally.

This demo originally had references to my favourite club Manchester
City but when I heard Thalamus were planning an Arsenal FC licence I
changed the titles of tunes #2 and #7 to resemble Arsenal players or
chants and sent it off to Dave Birch. I was going to do the music for
that game but the project never saw the light of day!

Zaw #14 - Music Select 3 - released 1992

All the tunes are: end of level confrontation (1:01), game over (0:41),
game complete (2:02), get ready (0:07), ingame 1 (2:43), ingame 2
(2:18), lose a life (0:09), high score (1:09), level complete (0:29) and
title tune (7:17).
Tune #4 (get ready) was inspired by the title theme to the 'Mary
Whitehouse Experience' TV programme.
Tune #8 (highscore) was influenced by the old song Frere Jacques.
Tune #10 (title theme) has parts used from Fear Of Ghosts by The
Cure.

Zaw #16 - Zaw Productions Rare And Unreleased Volume 1 - released
1992

Ubik's Musik Demotune Remixes #1 and #2 - (3:55 and 1:05) both
remixes of one of the Ubik's Musik demo themes that I did way back in
1989.
Tragedy For You (Rough As F***) (5:31) - the original prototype for the
tune that appeared in Indie Hits 1 (See Zaw #1 above.)

Zaw #17 - Indie Hits 4 - released 1992

Insanity (Insane Mix) (8:08) - cover of the brilliant dance smash by
Oceanic. I originally did this tune for a demo which was never
released, this being Zaw #10, The Clyde Radcliffe Interview. I did
suggest to Steve Rowlands once that this could be given away with
Creatures 2 but he declined, and on his say so I didn't release the
demo. Incidentally the Rowlands brothers don't even own the copyright
to the Clyde Radcliffe character!
MTO (Extended Mix) (12:28) and Sheriff Fatman (Fatbastard Mix)
(7:37) - Covers of New Order and Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine
songs respectively. The New Order song is on the B-side of their 12"
only Run 2 single.

Zaw #18 - Cecilia Ann The Mixes - released 1992

This features three versions of The Surftones hit, they are Pixies Mix
(2:02), Beach Dance Mix 107 BPM (6:28) and Extended Guitar Mix
(4:30). My main inspiration for doing it was the Pixies' version on their
Bossanova CD, hence tune #1 sounds like their version!

Zaw #19 - The Martin Galway Megamix - released 1992

A megamix of some classic Galway tunes that I did (11:38) - my C64
music hacking contact at the time Peter De Bie suggested that I do a
remix of Galway stuff, so I came up with this 11 minute megamix. It
features parts from (in order): Comic Bakery (title theme), Parallax
(title theme), Yie Ar Kung Fu II (highscore), Game Over (title theme),
Combat School (title theme), Short Circuit (ingame theme), Slap Fight
(first ingame theme), Green Beret (loading theme), and back to Comic
Bakery (title theme) to finish.

Zaw #20 - The Zaw Productions Interview - released 1992

A little interview with moi done by some C64 users. All the tunes are
(#1 is 6:13, #2 is 5:05 and #3 is 6:37, they had no titles!) Tune #1 is
a remix of my high score tune from Zaw #11, Music Select 2. Tune #2
also has parts taken from Pro-Gen by Shamen, What Time Is Love by
KLF, and Blue Monday by New Order.

Zaw #21 - Dance Or Drop The Remixes - released 1992

The file has 5 remixes of my tune 'Dance Or Drop' (see later for where
it appeared) and they are in order: 7" radio edit mix (4:49), 7" dub mix
(5:06), bassline thumper mix (8:10), spacial spaced out mix (4:02),
and trancing ambient mix (7:08). You might also notice little parts
taken from the level 3 ingame theme to Last Ninja 2 by Matt Gray, and
Another One Bites The Dust by Queen (I was listening to a Ben Daglish
demo at the time of writing and that's why it crept in there - I don't like
them really!)

Zaw #22 - Merry Christmas 2 - released 1992

The intro is a remix of The Twelve Days Of Christmas (3:07) (again,
see Zaw #5.)
The main part has 6 Christmassy themes and they are:
Tune #1: Jingle Bells (2:55) - the traditional old James Pierpont
version, speeded up a tad by me.
Tune #2: Rocking Around The Christmas Tree (2:19) - A song made
famous in the 60's, but guess what? Some people still think Kim Wilde
and Mel Smith did it! (Hehe..)
Tune #3: Noel, Noel (2:02) - Old traditional Christmas theme again.
Tune #4: White Christmas (3:39) - done by Irving Berlin yonks ago,
and I'm sure you've heard the famous Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby
one as well. So another traditional one I churned out.
Tune #5: Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer (2:13) - Jump up and down
madly and bop to this version.
Tune #6: Jingle Bells (Macc Lads Mix) (3:41) - Based on their slightly
alternative version with different lyrics (far too obscene to repeat here,
but if you want a sample of them, ask.) Done from their 7" single.

Zaw #23 - Hope In A Nuclear World (Extended) - released 1992

The remix (7:41). This tune originally was on the original and rare
'Quadraped Tearaways' demo (Zaw #8) and Andy Startin liked the tune
so much that he asked me to do an extended version for his Graphic
Adventure Game 'Retaliation' which I did. His band of the same name
of the game also did this tune frequently as a jam as part of their set
which was flattering indeed. Maybe one day Andy will uncover a tape
of his band jamming to it for me.

Zaw #24 - Rokopuss - released 1992

The tune is (9:17) and was done for someone starting up their PD
company Ace PD. However I found out that he was using everyone in
the PD scene (Kenz of Binary Zone included) and was just selling stuff
on claiming he'd found it himself - then vanished without trace. If Kenz
and I ever see him, he's dead! This has versions of (in order): You
Can't Take That Away by Pete Shelley, a Metallica song that was
covered in 'Utopia' by Dungeon Master and King Fisher of TRIAD, Dead
Pop Stars by Altered Images, the Jaws film theme by John Williams,
and an original tune by me! Okay, so I cobbled this one together in
around five hours, and it probably shows.

Zaw #25 - Skate Or Remix - released 1993

This had Hubbard's original Skate Or Die tune as well as my 'Lester
Forever 12"' reworking. The 12" remix is here. I fell in love with the
game and the Hubbard music and just had to try and remix it. I found
out where the player was accessing the channel info from and diverted
it to read my own data, and so I remixed it in 11 days. This remix is
7:39 as opposed to the original's 4:02. Why 'Lester Forever'? Cos
Lester is the best computer opponent in the game of course..

Zaw #26A - Binary Zone Members Disk 2 Side A - released 1993

The tune is called Wandering Meanderment (6:36) and was used for
Binary Zone's Members Disk 2 Side A menu (which I also coded).

Zaw #26B - Binary Zone Members Disk 2 Side B - released 1993

Same as above, this time for side 2, the tune being called Death By The
Rack (6:38).

Zaw #27 - Tribute To The Atari 2600 - released 1993

This features eleven renditions of Atari 2600 themes. In order of tunes
they are: Moon Patrol (0:30), Decathlon (0:23), Pressure Cooker
(0:15), Smurf (intro) (0:08), Pole Position (0:04), Popeye (intro)
(0:04), Popeye (ingame) (0:15), Super Cobra (level complete) (0:05),
Tutenkham (level 4 complete) (0:05), Tutenkham (level 3 complete)
(0:05) and Pitfall Death (0:02).

Zaw #28 - Quadraped Tearaways 2 (Subconscious Exorcism) - released
1993

The second in the series, this was released around December 1993 in
small numbers. It also made it onto the covermount cassette on
Commodore Format's June 1994 issue. The seven tracks are: Ever
Changing Moods I-V (7:58), Countdown To Holocaust (14:42), Rush To
Work (3:26), Space Battle Epicanous (8:09), Traffic Jam Blues (3:50),
Acidic Drop Reprisation (5:48) and The Illusion Of Ambience (23:34)
which was the longest tune I'd done at that time. To be honest, I was
suffering burn out here, and it may show in one or two of the tunes.
People seem to like Countdown To Holocaust a lot though, I suppose
cos the whole tune builds up all the way through. I did no tunes after
these for around six months!

Zaw #29 - The Adventures Of Flopsy - released 1993

A real tale behind this one (8:24). I was going to use this in
Quadraped Tearaways 2 (Zaw #28) but I thought the tune was too
cutesy for the mainly dark themes I had. So instead I gave this tune to
C64 user Adam Langdon to use in his programs. The reason behind the
title was Flopsy was the name of a cuddly bunny and he would feature
in a really cutesy game. Unfortunately as I couldn't code this never
took off.

Zaw #30 - Zaw Productions In Conference - released 1994

The three songs in this demo made up the Floccipaunincilihilifcation EP.
The three tunes were called Establishmentarianism (5:56) ,
Desperationist (7:07) and Contradictory (7:23) respectively. Tune #3
(Contradictory) is a remix of Contraindication (The Together Mix) by
Durutti Column.

Zaw #34A - Binary Zone Members Disk 3 Side A - released 1994

The tune is called Evil Is Everywhere (6:25) and like Zaw #26 A and B,
I coded the menus. The very last tune I also used Ubik's Musik for!

Zaw #34B - Binary Zone Members Disk 3 Side B - released 1994

The tune is called Oriental Mystery (6:49) and was the first tune I
officially released using the now famous Dutch USA Team Music
Assembler (or DUSAT as I call it.)

Zaw #35 - Insectophobia - released 1994

My first game commission that was actually released (6:22). Kenz of
Binary Zone liked the fact I'd changed over to DUSAT and was in the
process of doing a four-game compilation 'The Shoot Em Up Destruction
Set' (SEUDS - released via Psytronik) and asked if I'd like to do the
music to the four games. This was the first which is a moody piece.

Zaw #36 - Nukenin And The Ronin - released 1994

The original music I did for this game as part of SEUDS (5:25). In the
end it was never used as the programmer got tired of hearing it while
testing out title pages and so on, but it does feature hidden in there a
cover version of 'Monkey Magic' by Godiego, the theme tune to the TV
programme 'Monkey'.

Zaw #37 - Silverfish - released 1994

Another game music I did for SEUDS (6:08). This has a hard edged
military sound to it. The main first bassline is from Know Your Enemy
by Rage Against The Machine (I was going to cover Killing In The Name
but decided against it) and small parts are from I Want You by Utah
Saints.

Zaw #38 - Flight Of The Albatross - released 1994

Another tune for SEUDS (7:32) and the one I was most pleased with as
it had a nice melodic structure.

Zaw #39 - Trojahn - released 1994

Another story and a half! One of the four games in SEUDS was to be
'Trojahn' being a sort of Gauntlet SEUCK clone, but the author didn't
want this game to appear because it contains several risque pics in the
game. I had already done this tune (6:43) so I knocked up a possible
SEUDS menu with this as it's theme. This was also unused, and I'm
glad really cos the menu which replaced it was much better.

Zaw #40 - The Kenzterview - released 1995

A mammoth interview with Kenz made up this demo, and there were
three tunes:
Disturbance At 4.20 am (7:32) - a long original piece about being
burgled - guess the time!
Your Death Has Begun Here (10:21) - an even longer original piece
which is really dark and downcast.
The Bog (Swamp Mix) (8:13) - Remix of song originally done by
Industrial band BIGOD 20, who Kenz likes. So he asked me to do a
version of one of their songs. This is what came out.

Zaw #41 - Merry Christmas 3 - released 1994

Yes this did come out BEFORE The Kenzterview. I had already allocated
Zaw #40 because I had incepted the idea for The Kenzterview back in
1994. This demo had six tunes and a hidden tune as well, which are:
Mary's Boy Child (2:44) - A cover of Harry Belafonte's Christmas song.
Note the bassline and drum patterns sound similar to Hubbard's
Sanxion loader. I was going to call this 'Mary's Sanxion Child' at one
point..
Christmas Baby Please Come Home (2:49) - A cover of another 60's
based Christmas hit.
Little Drummer Boy (2:55) - An old old Christmas song, which fitted
with the theme.
Christmas Is Really Fantastic (1:54) - A cover of Frank Sidebottom's
classic Christmas song.
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (1:29) - A cover of an old Christmas
hit, can you believe Michael Jackson had a hand in the original?
Neither can I.
Silent Night (3:06) - Traditional as they come this one, written almost
two hundred years ago by two German people. Stille Nacht, as it is
said over there.
Spooky (6:28) - The hidden tune in the demo, accessed by typing
LITTLE FRANK IS BOBBINS (including the spaces.) A six minute new
tune that I thought I may as well release and hide in there. (I actually
hid it in the top part of the hires screen as I wasn't using it and had
split the screen into normal text and hires, a shock to most that I could
occasionally code efficiently!)

Zaw #42A - 92' (9294 Mix) - released 1994

One of three tunes I did specially for demos by Rob Rawson Tetley (aka
Demi-God.) Unfortunately he never got round to releasing anything
else so the tunes remain unused. This is a remix of Pop Will Eat Itself's
92 Degrees single (7:48), mainly based on the original mix and the 12"
remix and done cos he was a PWEI fan!

Zaw #42B - It's Dark In Here! - released 1994

The second of the three tunes as mentioned above (10:45). I forayed
into multi-voicing with this one, and at one point it sounds like 5
channels!

Zaw #42C - The Key - released 1994

This is a cover of a Kristin Hersh song (3:39). It's the B-side on her
'Your Ghost' CD single. I love Kristin Hersh, incase you didn't know.
She is one of the few female musicians with attitude, a deep sense of
thought, a great band Throwing Muses and solo too, and three children!

Zaw #44 - The First Demo Of 1995 - released 1995

I did the whole demo and tunes on 1/1/95 and spread it the same day
(well, at about 11pm!) so hopefully it was the first one. There are two
tunes here:
There I Was Again (7:14) - One of Danny Gillgrass' (also known as
Danny G of Suicyco Industries) particular favourites, this was to end up
being a huge epic sprawling tune, but that didn't materialise until I
released 'Quadraped Tearaways 3' (Zaw #48 - see below) and did the
full 25 minute version, 'Going To Where I Was Again'. So this just
became a compact nifty 7 minute edit (!) to start with. I also think this
ports over really well from C64!
A Slight Misdemeanour (6:29) - a little original tune I also did for this
demo.

Zaw #45C - It's Dark In Here (7" edit) - released 1995

Another edited version (4:26). The disk based mag TUCD liked my
music so I did a special edit version of it for them when doing my music
article 'Time For Some Music'.

Zaw #48 - Quadraped Tearaways 3 (Strange Thoughts) - released 1997

The latest in the Quadraped Tearaways series took me nearly three
months to write the music, but I've had quite a few compliments from
people saying this is my finest music. The eight tracks are: Alone In A
Forest (12:28), Banquet At Yang Sing (5:56), Comfort In Distress
(4:42), Destructive Rioting (4:39), Eerie Black Darkness (12:04),
Forgetting Stress (9:57), Going To Where I Was Again (25:07) and
Hope For A Lasting Peace (6:19). In total, over 80 mins of music
easily. Most people, believe it or not, like Going To Where I Was Again,
and indeed Kenz described it as 'completely epic'. Comfort In Distress
was inspired by a moment early in 1997 that changed the way I look at
other people..

Zaw #49 - Digital Acid Remixer - released 1995

This is basically a remixed version of the tune that Ash and Dave used
on their 'Digital Acid' demo. I had found the locations in memory where
they played all the samples in a certain order, and so I just changed
those bytes around for a great new remix. All I then did was write a
small machine code program to load the demo and place my remix data
in the tune, and there you have it - Digital Acid remixed.

Zaw #51 - Suicyco Industries tunes.. released 1995 - 1998.

The below are all tunes I did for Danny G of Suicyco Industries and
have appeared in his demos at some point. From Zaw #51 A - L, they
are:

A: Chorlton And The Wheelies Remix , 1995 (1:01): A little remix of the
Chorlton And The Wheelies TV theme that I knocked up in around an
hour when I was at his student house in Salford!

B: Sin (Lies, Control.) , 1995 (7:41): A cover version and remix of
Nine Inch Nails' brilliant 'Sin' song. (Danny G and I are huge NIN fans!)
This doesn't port over completely as I want it due to my DX7 drum
effect type C64 instrument that plays with the drums (you'll soon hear
it.) Matt Gray tunes such as Hunter's Moon (title) suffer the same way.

C: Eraser (polite) , 1996 (1:17): A cover of another NIN song that only
was on the USA issue of their Further Down The Spiral CD. No drums
at all, and done in an hour here at Zaw Towers while Danny G was
here.

D: I Just Can't Stop Loving You , 1996 (4:12): A cover of Michael
Jackson's hit single, that I did for a part with all love hearts on the
screen (awww..)

E: The Battle Of Xuang Chen , 1996 (7:08): Another twee little original
oriental tune that I did, which ended up in a hidden part on one of his
demos.

F: The Running Man , 1996 (3:36): I was sent a film soundtrack tape
by Danny G and I liked this theme from the film so I converted it - I
can't remember who did it originally.

G: The X-Files (Rainstorm Mix) , 1996 (3:46): A complete re-working of
Mark Snow's 'X Files' theme. I had already done a cover of the original
(see Zaw #55 below) and so simply remixed it with lots of rain and
thunder effects (guess who had been playing Ghouls and Ghosts?)

H: Halloween On 2nd November , 1996 (1:09): Another tune I did at
Danny G's place, although I was going to write it two days earlier in
keeping with the subject matter. This is of couse John Carpenter's film
music complete with more rain and thunder!

I: Cantina Band , 1997 (2:53): As part of a Star Wars themed demo, I
did this John Williams track from the film soundtrack. My main source
of inspiration was Ash's version of this theme on their 'Girl From Mars'
CD single.

J: this will be a remix of 'Closer' by NIN, when I get time to finish it.
Watch this space.

K: Misery Is The Worst Pain ## , 1998 (6:08): My first tune of 1998,
and reflects my state of mind on New Year's Eve 1997, being
completely narked off with life, and all the women and ex-girlfriends
who have used me. Grr.

L: Stranglehold ## , 1998 (1:52): A small nifty cover of Jeroen Tel's
Fast Tracker module. However, this sounds not as it should in Sidplay
at the moment, due to the waveforms I used the mix, but it is nice on
my C64..

Zaw #53 - Pacrage music - written 1996, game unreleased!

All the music for this game (except the title theme which I didn't do!)
was done for a Pacman clone Pacrage. However the main programmer's
C64 broke and so it never saw the light of day. They were level 1
(2:43), level 2 (3:05), level 3 (3:04), level 4 (3:16), level 5 (2:52),
level 6 (2:33), level 7 (2:41), level 8 (2:33), the get ready tune (0:21)
and game complete theme (3:41). Note that the level 4 music is a
cover of It's All Up To You by The Darling Buds.

Zaw #54 - Ben Daglish music demo - released 1996

I coded this demo for Commodore Zone with ten Ben tunes but also hid
an original tune in there, Trimerophrim Ibuprofen (7:28). I wrote this
when I was off sick due to a horrible urine infection (don't ever get one,
it's awful and you feel really sore) and the name refers to the two drugs
I was prescribed which didn't even work for four days. What a great
event that was - not. If you have this demo, type in IT TAKES BLOOD
AND GUTS TO BE THIS COOL BUT IM STILL JUST A CLICH (including
the spaces) and you'll have this tune.

Zaw #55 - The X-Files - released 1996

This was the original cover of Mark Snow's 'X Files' theme (3:19) that I
did for Kenz, it eventually appeared in the Gillian Anderson slideshow
demo as the main theme playing throughout.

Zaw #56 - Kindergarten Kids - released 1997

Another game commission I did. I was down at Kenz's house when he
showed me this game to go on issue 8 of Commodore Zone, so I ended
up the week after doing the title music (4:02) and the ingame music
(4:13) which are nice cutesy things.

Zaw #57 - Pacmanesque - tunes released 1997, game not finished!

Another game commission for ANOTHER Pacman type game. I called
the collection 'Pacmanesque' as the author hadn't told me a title for the
game as yet. They are definitely being used in his game - and I might
end up doing some more tunes for it as yet. In order the tunes are:
title (4:17), ingame 1 (2:52), ingame 2 (3:04), game over (0:09) and
high score (1:32). The start of the title tune is very like Steve
Rowlands' 'Creatures' title theme, that's how the author wanted it so
don't blame me for copping out!

Zaw #58 - Tombraider title theme - released 1997

I love Tomb Raider on the PC - and I've finished it! A Tomb Raider type
demo has been released on the C64 with graphics ported over from the
PC and it was going to have my interpretation of Nathan McCree's
superb title theme (3:04), but my version was used as a basis for the
one eventually in there, by Sean Connolly of Sonix Systems. Due to
my quick change in voices to simulate a harp on the C64, the PC
conversion doesn't sound as good as it could - port this back to a real
C64 and hear the difference.

Zaw #59 - Lost - tune composed 1997 ##, game not finished!

A game tune I created for Mat Cooper's forthcoming text adventure
game. Quite spooky and atmospheric, with thunder, clock ticking
effects and a deliberately desperate piano at the end (which a lot of
people like, too). The game should be released 1998 with a bit of luck.

Zaw #60 - The Last Amazon - released 1997

A new game commission for Commodore Zone that Kenz asked me to
do. This has three tunes and they are the intro (2:34), title (3:19) and
ingame (6:08). The ingame tune uses some nice instruments but due
to the waveforms used they sound really far too loud when playing on
Sidplay. You'll know which ones they are when you hear them. The
intro tune was not used in the final game, so it remains a little
unreleased gem.

Zaw #61 - Always With You - released 1998

An exclusive tune I have done for News Press disk magazine (5:07),
inspired by the fact that loved ones such as girlfriends or family pets
are always with you in your mind even if you aren't actually with them.
It's quite a nice plucked instrument on the C64 too, which took me ages
to get right!

Zaw #62 - Desecrated Mind - released 1998

An exclusive tune, this time for Merman of Ozone's forthcoming 'Alf
Yngve Slideshow' (7:00). As the pictures in this slideshow resemble a
lot of Alf's excellent artwork, mainly of an aggressive nature, I felt the
best was that I wanted something hard for this, and after much
listening to Obituary and Pantera, I had the idea - sound like Matt Gray
with a mean bass and punchy drum. It sounds really aggressive and is
the state of my mind due to my thoughts..

Zaw #63 - Baby Penguin's Adventure - released 1998

Another exclusive for Merman, this time for the 'Ferris Slideshow' and is
really being cute (6:22) in line with the Ferris character. I have a
picture in my room which is a mother and father penguin, with its cute
baby one in the middle. I just imagined the baby one having a little
adventure, much like the cartoon series Pingu, and this made the
theme in my head. And why not?

Zaw #65 - Q-Billion ##, music composed 1998, game not yet released!

Five game tunes I have done for Frank Gasking's forthcoming cute
puzzle game. Atmospheric and cute is the order of the day, with a title
tune, two ingame tunes, get ready and game over tunes.

Zaw #66 - Grandpa Pacman - released 1998

An unusual story behind this one. Lafe Travis heard some of the tunes
from my website and liked them, so asked me if I could compose some
music specially for his game Grandpa Pacman. What I did was do the
music on Commodore 64 first, and then he converted the music to MIDI
format for use in his PC game. This file has 13 tunes, 11 of which were
used in the final release. In turn they are the title (0:22), A Walk In
The Park (0:29), Christmas at the GrandPac's (0:13), Those Were The
Days (0:24), Fountain of Youth (0:17), A Hole In One (0:12), Sunday
Drive (0:15), Close Encounters of the Worst Kind (0:26), Sunday
Services (0:17), Scaredy-Ghost (0:09), Grandpa Pacman's Birthday
Wish (unused) (0:15), The Great Fruit Robbery (unused) (0:35), and
The Death of Inky (0:06).

Zaw Productions Music Disk 1 - released 1992

A compilation disk with Zaw #1-#7, #9, #11 and #12. There was also
the menu tune One Of Those Things (6:09) which I quite like even to
this day.

Zaw Productions Music Disk 2 - released 1992

As well as having Zaw #13, #14, #16-#21, this had a separate intro,
menu and outro. The intro had the tune Zarjaz 4 (5:57), the menu had
the full 16 minute version of Dance Or Drop - which like the remixes
have bits from Matt Gray's level 3 music to Last Ninja 2, and Queen's
Another One Bites The Dust (16:14). The outro had the tune Dead At
Red II (8:09) to finish things off.

Unused and Other Zaw Tunes :

Aa (preview) (4:05) - released 1995: An ambient tune I never finished
because Kenz and I decided it didn't suit the Kenzterview (Zaw #40).

Beginnings (0:54) - released 1995: A part conversion of an obscure
Jimi Hendrix tune that my Hendrix obsessed brother likes a lot.

Black Sabbath (1:32) - composed 1992, released 1994: The first DUSAT
tune I ever did, a cover of Black Sabbath's self titled tune on their self
titled LP for Rory Stamp who was a fan.

Chorlton And The Wheelies (0:53) - released 1994: The original cover
version of this TV show's theme.

Closer (closest) preview (3:25) - released 1997: A preview of my remix
of Nine Inch Nails' 'Closer'. When I do finish this, it'll be for use in a
Suicyco Industries demo and become Zaw #51J.

Dead At Red (7:37) - released 1992: The original version. I did this for
a project Peter De Bie was working on, The Jonathan Dunn compilation.
It wasn't used as he managed to get an exclusive unused tune off
Jonathan Dunn instead (well it was at the time.)

Distortion Intentional (11:18) - released 1996: A megamix of Industrial
tunes for the masses. This may also appear in a Suicyco Industries
demo soon. In order, it features parts of Wish by Nine Inch Nails,
Millennium by Front Line Assembly, I Want You by Cabaret Voltaire,
Getting Closer by Nitzer Ebb, Metal Dance by Surgical Penis Klinik, Just
One Fix by Ministry and March Of The Pigs (including the All The Pigs,
All Lined Up reworking) by Nine Inch Nails. This tune also has that DX7
type instrument I used in Sin during the Nitzer Ebb and SPK parts and
again doesn't port over that brilliantly.

Gigantic (3:20) - released 1992: A cover version of Pixies' first UK
single. I still love Pixies!

It's Pingu! (0:09) - released 1998: A nice little version of the Pingu title
theme to the really cute TV programme. I composed this whilst taking
a break from Baby Penguin's Adventure.

Jon Dunn Megamix (9:33) - released 1992: A megamix of Jon Dunn's
tunes for use in Peter De Bie's 'Jonathan Dunn Collection'. It would
have been used in the select menu and features in order of appearance:
Ocean Loader 4, Vindicator Level 1 (ingame), New Zealand Story
(ingame), Renegade 3 (title tune), Ocean Loader 4 (again), Robocop
(title), Run The Gauntlet (ingame music for offroad vehicle events) and
back to Ocean Loader 4 to finish.

Merry Christmas Everyone (1:55) - released 1994: Something I didn't
use in Merry Christmas 3 (Zaw #41) - a cover of Shakin' Stevens'
annoying Christmas song.

Monday Mornin' Blues (1:18) - released 1995: A nice little blues tune,
just to prove I could!

Ode to Rambones (1:32) ## - released 1998. A birthday present for
Jan Diabelez Arnt Harries (Rambones) of HVSC, this cover his 'One
Sample' tune, which I quite like. Simple, yet really effective.

Over The Bunnyhop (0:40) - released 1998: I love Kikstart and Kikstart
II on the C64, and here is my little theme tune tribute to them.

Wizardry Live (0:48) - released 1998: A little tribute to the game tune
that I did live at Kenz's house while I was there. It's loosely based on
the Wizardry main theme but not completely.

All in all, 107 files have been produced, totalling 223 tunes (almost all
of them you can get now!) so please do enjoy them and make sure you
use SIDplay to listen with. Please feel free to e-mail me with any
comments on <wazzaw@globalnet.co.uk>, especially if you want any
C64 soundtracks producing! Thanks for listening.
