ATENVELDT [TARGET ARCHERY] ROYAL ROUND _________________ GENERAL RULES: 1. Bows shall be long bow, recurve, or cross bow. Break down olympic type bows are permitted. There shall be no weight restriction on bows. The use of compound bows, sights, counter weights, plunger buttons, kisser buttons, and mechanical releases is prohibited. a. Long bows; are straight limbed, normally 4 to 6 ft. long with a pull weight of 45 lbs. or more. Long bows with a pull weight of less than 45 lbs. shall be classified as open division. b. Recurve bows; have limbs that are curved out on the ends. These type bows shall be classified as open division. c. Cross bows; shall be of period design. Self cocking cross bows are permitted, but shall be limited to 5 shots on the speed round. Front sights shall not be permitted. 4. Arrows shall be of wood construction, with feather fletching. The same shall apply to cross bow bolts. 5. It is our hope to keep *all* of our equipment as period as possable. 6. The targets shall be 60 cm. five color ring targets. The scoring shall be... GOLD = 5 pts. RED = 4 pts. BLUE = 3 pts. BLACK= 2 pts. WHITE= 1 pt. No score shall be given if the arrows do not score in the scoring ring. If an arrow breaks the line it shall score the higher point. 7. Due to the different weather conditions in our Kingdom, Royal Rounds will run year around. It shall consist of: one flight of six arrows at 40 yards. one flight of six arrows at 30 yards. one flight of six arrows at 20 yards. and a speed round at 20 yds. consisting of: one flight of as many arrows as one can shoot in 30 seconds. 8. The Royal Rounds may be shot as many times during the season as possable. ROYAL ARCHER: 1. The royal archer shall be appointed by the Crown, and shall answer to the King & Queen, Kingdom Seneschal, and Earl Marshal. Any reports shall be rendered to the Earl Marshal. a. The royal archer may be replaced only by the King & Queen. If the royal archer wishes to resign this position, his or her resignation in writing must be submitted within 30 days of their departure. And all records must be turned over to their replacement or the Kingdom Seneschal. 2. The duties of the royal archer shall consist of the following: a. The royal archer shall collect and compile archery scores for the Kingdom and shall submit these scores for publication periodically during the royal round season. b. He or She shall also support and assist in any way possible the archers of each Barony, Shire, Canton, or College in the Kingdom of Atenveldt. c. He or She may also be called upon to act as safety officer in SCA combat where archery is used, and must be authorized by the Marshalate for such. CAPTAINS: 1. The captains shall be selected by the royal archer, with the approval of the baron & Baroness, and/or seneshal of their perspective groups. a. the captians shall be selected from the individual Baronies, Shires, Cantons, and Colleges, unless there is no one to do the job. In this case the archers should go to the nearest Barony, Shire, Canton, or College that does have regular practice. b. It shall be the captains responsibility to hold regular archery practice, and it is suggested to stage royal rounds at least once a month during royal round season. c. The captians shall report to the royal archer the dates and scores of the archers of his or her group. d. The captains may choose a lieutenant to take over their duties in case they cannot attend practice sessions.... [ this is STRONGLY recommended! ] e. The captains will also be ready to act as safety officers in SCA combat where archery is used, and must be authorized by the Marshalate for such. RANKING OF ARCHERS: 1. The ranking of archers shall be made by averaging three royal round scores. a. The score of 00 to 24.9 .... Shall be a NOVICE. b. The score of 25 to 44.9 .... shall be a BOWMAN. c. The score of 45 to 64.9 .... Shall be a YEOMAN. d. The score of 65 to 84.9 .... Shall be a FORESTER. e. the score of 85 or more .... Shall be a BOW MASTER. 2. Once an archer reaches the next highest level, their ranking cannot be removed, even if that archer never shoots that score again. REMEMBER,these rankings are an average of three royal round scores.
