Av Björn Sjöstedt Efter att i flera år ha tagit del av Medeltidsveckan i Visby har jag förvånat mig över festligheternas något märkliga utgångspunkt: den danske kungens ockupation av Gotland år 1361. Hur skulle det bli om man översatte samma händelse till nutid? -En ockupationsarmé gör sitt intåg i staden. Soldater klädda i kamouflageuniformer och svärtade i ansiktet. De är beväpnade med knivar, handgranater och moderna automatvapen, typ Ak 5:or. Istället för Medeltidsveckans hästar och ryttare ses pansarfordon och motorcyklar. Invasionsarmén väller in genom den sönderskjutna ringmuren, soldaterna plundrar och våldtar. Rapporter från det forna Jugoslavien gör det hela lätt att föreställa sig. En lysande anledning för ett festspel? Medeltidsveckan är ett publikt rollspel och turistspektakel, som helt och hållet lever på sina vackra och uttrycksfulla dräkter. Dessa kamouflerar själva berättelsen. Kanske bidrar rentav hela arrangemanget till att romantisera krigets och våldets tjusning? -Hantverk, gycklare och musik i all ära, men de tunga, spänningsskapande inslagen under veckan handlar alltid om vapen, srtider, maktkamper -"tjusigt" våld. Medeltidsveckan i Visby är också en viktig samlingspunkt för många av Sveriges rollspelare och lajvare. Resonemanget ovan kan också överföras rakt av på olika lajvarrangemang i fantasyns eller historiskt baserade världar. Även dessa bygger sitt dramatiska innehåll på våld, övergrepp, strider och våldtäkter, vilket också kamoufleras med iögonfallande klädedräkter eller rustningar. En skillnad mellan Medeltidsveckans arrangemang och lajv är att det senare saknar utomstående åskådare och därmed de begränsningar för handlingar som en iakttagande publik alltid sätter. Men ta bort utklädningskläderna och se efter vad som utspelas -egentligen! Var finns då alternativen till denna typ av scenarier? Är alla dessa människor som sysslar med rollspel i olika former i färd med att gemensamt slå fast att företeelser som fred, frihet och en mera demokratisk och rättvis värld är historiska omöjligheter? Att skapa visionära bilder av en mänskligt sett bättre framtidsvärld borde kunna vara angeläget och skulle kunna anses som NYSKAPANDE, väl att skilja från den narrativa upprepningen av hierarkiska och icke-demokratiska samhällsförebilder.
