The Power Glove(TM) is a low cost alternative for three dimensional input that is gaining in popularity. Topics to be covered include: - Origins of the Power Glove(TM) - Interfacing the Glove and the PC - Glove operation and troubleshooting - Operating the Software packages * - How to Use Two Gloves at Once * - An Implementation of Gesture Recognition * - Using the Glove in MS Windows Depending on the interests of the participants, the following additional topics may be addressed: - How to Write Programs that use the Glove with C/C++ - Current software and hardware Directions in PC Virtual Reality - How to Create Virtual Worlds on the PC - 3D (Stereoscopic) displays with Liquid Crystal Shutter Glasses Individual hands-on tutelage will follow the lecture and show the proper use of the glove in the software applications to be demonstrated. Participants will share 386 or 486 PCs provided by VRASP to familiarize themselves with their new gloves. It is required that the following equipment be available for home use of the glove and software: minimum 386 PC compatible system with VGA graphics, joystick port and parallel port. VRASP will provide the following equipment inclusive in the registration fee: a Mattel Power Glove(TM); a customized PC to glove connector; a DOS formatted 3-1/2 inch diskette of freeware Glove driver code written by Mark Pflaging, workshop instructor, and other freeware VR software. (VRASP can in no way guarantee the connectors nor the Mattel Power Gloves(TM), since they are no longer in production by Mattel. However, VRASP can provide a limited number of Toys 'R Us receipts for warranty follow up. The software is also provided on an as-is basis, however defective diskettes will be replaced.) ************* The duration of the workshop is two hours. Participants can select whether they want to attend the Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday workshop. ************* There will be a question and answer session at the end of the workshop. Participants interested in general virtual reality issues have a unique opportunity to attend two special technical sessions on VR (speakers and exhibitors to be announced). These demos and sessions are free to registrants of the workshop. There is also a special session on HDTV.
