From: leonar1@SERVER.uwindsor.ca (LEONARD ROSS ) Subject: HARDWARE: CRT's vs LCD's -- comparison? Date: Fri, 16 Apr 93 12:16:02 EDT I am currently working on the construction of a homebrew VR system and would like to post a question about my HMD. I realize that most manufacturers have gone with LCD's for visual input with varying success in resolution, colour, and FOV. Wouldn't 4" or 4.5" CRT's alleviate some of these problems? As I understand it, CRT's provide a much higher resolution, better colour definition, better contrast? I might be out on the edge here, but wouldn't a larger screen (4" as opposed to 2.7"), coupled with proper optics, provide a larger FOV? I do realize that CRT's are heavier and larger, and would probably make the HMD much more cumbersome. But in a situation where detail is very important, wouldn't the use of a CRT-based HMD be worthwhile? Thanx. Ross Leonard University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada
