Any questions can be sent to me. dbe@world.std.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BCS General Meeting Visualizing Virtual Environments Wednesday, April 28, 7:30 p.m. Wheelchair access/MBTA/Parking Virtual Reality Inc.(VRI) of Pleasantville, N.Y demonstrates a fully-immersive virtual reality system including a high-resolution head-mounted display. Mr. Arden Strasser, vice president of technology at VRI discusses the elements of a virtual reality system and presents examples of how this emerging technology is being applied in the fields of medicine/science, education, entertainment, and others. The demonstration system will include VRI's high-resolution head- mounted display driven by Sense8's WorldToolKit on a Silicon Graphics workstation, using an Acension "Bird" head tracker and a six-degrees-of-freedom "Spaceball" trackball. VRI specializes in the development of virtual reality systems for design, simulation, and training. Using 3D displays, computer graphics, spherical audio systems, and interactive input and output devices, the company develops virtual reality systems that make it possible for individuals to experience and interact with computer- generated environments. VRI also designs and manufacturers high- resolution optical systems. EXPERIENCE VR YOURSELF! Audience members may experiment with the technology.
