From: Robert Jacobson Subject: INDUSTRY: SGI markets directly to broadcasters as profits boom Date: Wed, 21 Apr 93 21:57:44 -0700 From Clarinet... Newsbytes reports that "the biggest computer story of the 1993 Natinal Association of Broadcasters' show," now concluded in Las Vegas, was SGI's new intention to market directly to the broadcasting industry with a new package of software and hardware called "Silicon Studio." A 15-month development program, the "Boulder Experience," preceded the announcement. SGI also reported earnings of $22 million for its third quarter ended March 31, compared with a nearly $500,000 loss last year. Total revenues for the quarter were $271 million, up 30 percent over last year. During the quarter, Silicon Graphics announced it would sell at a $120,000 Power Challenge deskside machine with the power of 18 Cray Research multi-million dollar supercomputers. It also cut 13 percent from the price of its entry-level Iris Indigo R3000 machine to $6,995. For the nine months ending March 31, revenues were $772 million, an increase of 23 percent over $626.8 million in the year-ago period. More news from the SGI contingent? Bob Jacobson CoMod
