I built a unit from 2 Sony viewfinders. The field-of-view is
extremely narrow -- about 20 degrees per eye. Get a couple of toilet
paper tubes and look through them to simulate this. Some people have
used telescope eyepieces (very expensive) instead of the simple
plastic lens that comes with the viewfinder to get a wider field of
view. As for problems, I'm a little squeemish about wearing CRT's 2
inches from my eyeballs for an extended period.
