Another neat trick is: put red/green/blue filters over 3 CRTs and use
some optics to overlay the images (I'm not technical, but like this?)

Obviously the end tube would have to be lower intensity, but you should,
with incredibly careful adjustment, be able to get pixels directly overlaid
on each other, giving colour with no fringes, and resolution better than
any colour CRT, let alone LCD.
