If you manage to do this, you could as well do this, which I guess is
*FAR* simpler:

Use a monochrome CRT, and then optically superimpose the color
information from a lower resolution LCD. You get the fine details from
the CRT and the color info from the LCD. This should match well the
human visual system, which has DIFFERENT photoreceptors (rods and
cones) for color and B&W.  You use only one CRT (lighter than 3) and
you don't have to use 3 rendering pipelines to draw 3 different images
(one for red, blue and green): you use the same info to drive both the
CRT and the LCD.

Sorry for the usual readers of the group, since I already described
this idea a while ago (although I had almost NO replies from that!!
Maybe it is a stupid idea).
