press release a while back, here it is again:

 
 MANDALA(R) VIRTUAL STAR TREK SIMULATION EMBARKS ON 3-YEAR AMERICAN TOUR

 In January 1992 the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry opened its 
 doors to the new Star Trek exhibit. Highlight of this interactive exhibit is 
 the Virtual Reality Transporter Experience created by the Vivid Group in 
 conjunction with Paramount Pictures. Now beginning a 3-year tour of 
 major American cities, the exhibit starts a 3-month run at the Boston 
 Museum of Science in October.
 
 The experience begins when visitors step into a physical recreation of Star 
 Trek's Transporter room. Groups of participants are greeted by the voice of 
 the Ship's computer and invited onto the transporter platform. Once there 
 they see themselves on a large video screen in front of them, ready to 
 beam to a variety of interactive Star Trek experiences. 
 
 The Mandala(R) System uses Newtek's Video Toaster, sending it a 
 signal to go into transport mode and "beam out" the images of the 
 participants. They are then "beamed down" into a new world where they 
 may interact with virtual images surrounding them. For example: in the 
 Ship's Holodeck, visitors are immersed in the heart of a jungle with an 
 array of flora and fauna that react when touched.
