The U.S.-Japan Kaisha Society is an association of business executives
and professionals with common interests in the U.S.-Japan business
relationship.

          Blessed by world-class educational institutions, one of the Bay
          Area's richest lodes of technical expertise is the university lab.
          A challenge for high-technology businesses, American and Japanese
          alike, is to access and commercialize research laboratory
          breakthroughs.

          Michael Harrison, a professor of computer science at Berkeley,
          and recent chairman of the National Science Foundation's JTEC
          Panel on Advanced Japanese Computing, will discuss his experience
          founding Gain Technology. In this highly successful venture,
          Prof. Harrison and a former PhD student joined their research
          expertise in object-orient multimedia technology with Matsushita
          Corporation's strengths in application development, finance and
          marketing.

          Niels Reimers founded Stanford University's Office of Technology
          Licensing in 1969, and was Director there for twenty-two years.
          Widely acclaimed to be the premier university licensing program
          in the United States, technology and products licensed by
          Stanford's OTL generate over $1 billion of revenue for its
          licensees. Mr. Reimers will discuss the key factors for success
          in quickly capturing and maximizing the economic value of
          technology by accelerating and enhancing its global
          commercialization. A founding principal of Technology Linkages
          International, today Mr. Reimers seeks out and negotiates
          licensing agreements for clients with corporations large and
          small in the United States, Europe, Japan and East Asia.

          With the end of the Cold War, we have entered an era of
          transition.  This calls for some fresh thinking on the
          relationship between the United States and Japan.
          Mr. Kato will share his thoughts with Kaisha Society
          members on this important topic.
