From: Toni Emerson Subject: MISC: Division Report, by Andy Hamilton [Forwarded from Andy Hamilton of Division, by Toni Emerson ] ************************************************************************** Division: Virtual Reality Solutions Founded in 1989, Division Group is a pioneer in the development and application of Virtual Reality technology. Division's ability to provide innovative, professional VR solutions in a wide range of application domains has brought major productivity benefits to its customers. Included among these are audio, air-conditioning and lighting environment simulation at Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., molecular modeling at Glaxo Group Research, and human factors design in the Defence Research Agency. Commercial Applications Division's VR Software Platform, dVS, has been refined from this experience to support its expanding applications base across an increasing number of mainstream computer products, including all Silicon Graphics, Inc. graphics workstations, IBM's RS/6000 family, as well as Division's integrated VR systems. Applications developed with dVS powerful software tools on one platform may now be re-used without modification on other installations. Moreover, dVS allows applications to automatically scale up or down to accommodate different performance hardware, for example texture mapping graphics options and multiple processor workstations, or changing functionality such as flat-screen, shutter glasses or tracked, headmounted displays. dVS efficiently uses whatever facilities are available in an installation and insulates applications from system dependencies. The dVS architecture is inherently distributed so it easily supports multiple participants using existing network technologies. Demonstration software is available, for a handling charge only, illustrating this flexibility by running applications on a range of immersive and non- immersive display configurations: contact Dave Bonini on the fax or email below. Virtual Design Environment Based on this sophisticated software platform, Division has developed a high-level design system to allow end users to exploit VR in their existing working environment without requiring software development. dVISE, the industry's first Virtual Design Environment is a dVS application that imports existing design data produced by Computer Aided Design and modeling software packages. dVISE innovative point-and-click interface allows users to create sophisticated, interactive virtual environments through powerful 3D tools and menus. dVISE is the world's first commercial design system to offer a true 3D user interface. It provides an integrated VR extension to established design automation products such as AUTOCAD, 3D Studio, Wavefront, and MultiGen to perform interactive visualization and evaluation of designs for manufacturability, kinematics and other realistic spatial properties. With an entry-level price of $3,900.00 and ready for immediate use on SGI workstations, the Division Virtual Design Environment allows the benefits of VR to be immediately exploited in existing installations. Integrated VR Systems Division is the only company to offer complete, integrated VR systems that are ready for immediate use by designers and application developers. The PROVISION 100 is a standards-based EISA bus system which uses an Intel 486 or Pentium processor running Unix System V. PROVISION systems include a6D-tracker and headmounted display. Dedicated accelerator cards support real-time stereo graphics, I/O processing, collision detection, and 3D audio and the bundled dVS and Virtual Design Environment software ensure all the benefits of ease of use, rapid development, and application portability to other computer platforms. PROVISION starts at $55,000. Technology Division also offers software and add-in accelerator cards such as stereo- ready image generators and real-time collision detection processors. These products allow existing desktop computers such as Macintosh and IBM- compatible personal computers to be used in VR applications. The Company Division was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Bristol England. The company's shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange. Incorporated in the U.S. in 1992, the company is expanding rapidly to meet the demands of that market from its U.S. headquarters located in Redwood City, California. Division supports some of the world's most prestigous corporations in the U.S., Europe, and Japan, providing leading research groups in government and industry with a wide range of professional VR products. Division recognises all registered trademarks. For additional information contact: Dave Bonini, Division, Inc.
