From: R Hollands Subject: TECH: VictorMaxx HMD? Yes, the VictorMaxx stuntmaster is a HMD. It has a display in it and it is mounted on the head. The question is, is it a good head mounted display? I personally haven't tried it because I haven't got that much money to waste on something that has been given such a bad press. However the way I hear it, it just a standard LCD display with 1 fresnel lens in front of it. BTW if you look at Edmund Scientific optical section there is a warning by the fresnel lenses stating 'Not recommended for extended usuage as they will cause eye strain'. The tracking mechanism only measures yaw, and then only provides a signal for turning left or turning right which indicates to me that turning the head at different speeds will result in positional error. Mind you, this is all hearsay, and so far the information from VictorMaxx has just been advertising. Monoscopic HMDs can be real HMDs, but how about some answers to the following questions: What is the field of view? How many pixels per degree? How much distortion is introduced? What optics are being used? How many degrees of freedom does the headtracker measure? What is the lag? What is the repeatability and accuracy of the tracker? Lets have some real answers to real questions and stop the bickering!
