Last week there was a post about research being conducted on human-
neural/machine interfacing.  Here is a related bit of news reported by
the AP on 27 July 93:

Yokosuka, Japan -

Aikira Hirawara (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Co.)

Hirawara and associates are studying the electrical signals associated
with muscle movement and have created a computer assisted robot hand
that responds to nerve impulses sent by the brain to the finger
muscles.  The goal of this research is to eventually market
brain-controlled artificial limbs.  These researchers have decided to
stick with motor impulses since they are stronger and easier to
decipher than are "thinking" signals.
