A lot of people don't like Lanier, but I do like his concept of post
symbolic communication (for those people: ok, ok, I am still young!)
If the concept is REALLY his own, well that's another subjet...

The real advantage of a shared VR is (in Lanier's view) that you 
DON'T need to communicate with the usual (symbolic) language. You 
communicate an experience by letting the other EXPERIENCE it, not
by describing it with words... You share experiences, worlds, actions
not words. And, even if this is still far away, I like it.
