I agree with Alan Wexelblat here: it's clear that no one involved
seems to understand how moderators are chosen or newsgroups run.  If
they did, there would be no talk of being "compelled" to transfer
moderation to someone.

I can understand that if you have "guest accounts" somewhere, that
puts you at their mercy.  But Alan has solved that.

If I left AT&T, the moderatorship of rec.arts.movies.reviews would go
with me.  I doubt AT&T would claim any ownership of it, and even if
they did, they would have no authority to do so.

(All this of course ignores the anarchic nature of Usenet in general.
People at HIT Labs can forge "Approved:" lines to post things.  But
There is no reason for the official moderator's address to be changed
to theirs.)
