I found this in this month's (July 1993) Popular Science Magazine
(p24).

Virtual Reality Ride

The Chameleon, a new amusement park ride due out this summer,
capitalizes on virtual reality technology.  Inside each pod, three
dimensional images are projected on a 30 by 52 inch screen; as you
control the speed, direction, and outcome of each ride, you experience
realistic g-forces created by the pod's movement.

Accompanying the short description is a small drawing of the ride.
The ride looks like a cloths drying tree with 10 "pods" hanging from
each limb.  Each pod holds two people.  It looks like the pod can
pitch forward and backwards, side to side, and rotate around the
vertical axis.  Each of the two riders have a different control: one
has a steering wheel like an airplane yoke, the other has a joy stick.
Looks like a cheap fun ride!
