Wow, I hadn't heard about this.  Dr. Gelertner was indeed one of the
leading thinkers in distributed and parallel computing, and his work
on the LINDA language has been very influential in cyberspace circles.
His work in AI, althiough perhaps less fashionable today, was inspired
and profound.  Best wishes to David and my own personal hopes for his
recovery.
