From: Christian Mogensen Subject: Re: INFO?: What's the name of the British game show? Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1993 23:39:03 CST It's CyberZone (or Ziberzone as they say it, I was there during filming) hosted by Craig Charles (awooga awooga) of Red Dwarf fame. The graphics are by Dimension International who need to seriously consider buying a 486 or faster: the graphics on show are just too jerky. While filming the server crashed a few moments from the end of a game, forcing a reset of the entire game and a quick patch of the system. Apparently they (Broadsword, the company behind the show) initially had tried HMDs but found that they weren't very exciting to look at, so they went for non-immersive VR instead. ie: artificial reality in the Krueger vein. The best part of the show is the final head to head, where contestants can shoot each other for points! They filmed one game (not shown on TV) where one party were continually being shot and no-one really got anywhere. That was too boring. I hope they do another, with HMDs and body tracking. That would be fun: seeing someone crouch down while you see their viewpoint or an external view of their virtual-body also crouching behind a wall or something. Christian mogensen@sna.co.umist.ac.uk
