From: andrewt@cogs.susx.ac.uk (Andrew Tyrell) Subject: SCI: Methods of Evaluation for VR Interfaces? Date: Tue, 4 May 93 09:37 BST Greetings The topic is this, with the emergence that interaction surprise is a social and situated activity . Evaluation methods have been emerging such as Suchmann & Trigg interaction Analysis , Activity Theroy as developed by Bodker, Kuutti, and also Engestrom who are among some of the people working in this area, Discourse Analysis, Grounded Theory etc. What methods have been applied to VR applications to validate them, any of the above, or has it been mainly heuristic evaluation, Cognitive walkthroughs? If any of the above methods have been used what problems were encountered? (Example, I.A.considers work to be a situated activity recorded on Video tape to catch the environment, what happens when you control the environment?) The methods discussed above have also been aplied to CSCW, what sort of problems occur when your dealing with multiple perspectives of the work involved in a VR environment? I'll try and tabulate any responses Thanks for the time Drew
