One thing to bear in mind is that in some applications, the presence of a
visual stimulus that spatially matches the audio may in some cases overcome 
poor spatialization and/or externalization of cheap 3D sound. In other
words, the ventriloquism effect may be good enough so that you can get away
with lousy location.

This isn't to say that Mr Wightman is wrong, far from it! Just that in some 
applications you may be able to cheat. Expect to see this first in video 
games.
