Following non-interactive, command-driven and graphical-interactive sytems, virtual environments now allow an easy-to-understand presentation and more intuitive interaction with computer internal worlds. Simulation, presentation and interaction is required in realtime. The integration of visual, auditory and further stimuli are evidently needed in future man machine interaction. The first generation of peripherals and software systems for building virtual environments like gloves, helmets and commercial packages are widely available now. The use of these tools in many applications is now being evaluated. Current research in this area is established at various levels of immersion and interaction - from desktop virtual reality to fully immersive systems. Research activities aim to overcome the limitations and to improve the acceptance of the techniques. New paradigms in future computer supported communication will be developed. Applications, now, are undertaking the first steps by adapting system prototypes to virtual environments. The accuracy, usability and effectiveness of this new technology is investigated. Further, application specific requirements and enhancements are defined and developed. The particular goal of this event is to identify the key research work and to stimulate application areas to use of VR techniques. The state of the art in advanced research and currrently applied techniques should also demonstrate gaps which could be covered by future R&D programs. The workshop intends to establish a working group within EUROGRAPHICS which enhances a continous information exchance between researchers and developers at an institutional level. EUROGRAPHICS'93 in Barcelona is the annual conference of the Eurographics association. Since 1980, the EUROGRAPHICS conference took place in different European countries. The conference main topics are computer graphics, visualization, imaging and related areas.
