The client can`t find the server port
Make sure the IP addresses in file 'world' file are OK and they point to the
right portnumber.
For local testing you can also add a line like

default                 127.0.0.1       1900    # local world

and start a server with

dactyl 1900 &

A client started with 

client

searches the default entry in 'world' and connects to port 1900 on the
local machine (magic IP number 127.0.0.1).
