From: mge@mundil.cs.mu.OZ.AU (Michael Geoffrey EDWARDS) Subject: CULTURE: VR - ethical and societal implications Date: Fri, 14 May 1993 07:06:18 GMT Message-ID: <9313417.26533@mulga.cs.mu.OZ.AU> Organization: Computer Science, University of Melbourne, Australia I am seeking contemporary information on the above issue. It will formulate part of an essay. At this stage I am fairly open regarding the catagories or sub - catagories, e.g 1. Entertainment 2. Training -maintainance -medical -sports 3. Therapy 4. Promotion & sales 5. Remote environs etc .... If one does have valid and relevant/pertinant views allied with some experience I would appreciate a reply (By all means it must be credible). By all means one has their views but I am interested in diversity with reference to cultural, ethnic and gender perception as to the direction and scope of VR owing to its relative infancy. The reason being, much has been written about VR, some relevant articles and others merely litery fantasy. Hence I seek pertinant views from the community of people actively involved in VR. Thankyou in advance Mike Edwards ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- U of Melbourne, Australia email: mge@mundil.cs.mu.OZ.AU -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
