From: skelly@pleiades.cs.bucknell.edu (sean kelly `94) Subject: HARDWARE: VR Platforms? Date: 15 May 1993 13:38:36 GMT Organization: Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA I don't want to start some kind of debate, but I'm looking for a new computer and I would like your input on whichsystems are good VR platforms. Since I can't afford a SGI Indigo, I was considering a Mac, PC, or an Amiga :). I have a PowerGlove, and would like to be able to eventually connect it to the computer, but my primary interests are VR applications (primarily shareware as I am rather poor), and good 3D imaging/morphing/animation. Each system seems to have its own strengths and weaknesses - I have 386 PC, and have used Rend386 with some success. I am also interested in networked VR apps (text or graphics based) ala. MUSE and MUSH for UN*X. A PC would seem to be best for this, but it seems an amiga or a mac may be better for low cost hi-performance graphics. I would appreciate any opinions (please email to reduce bandwidth) or information you would be willing to give. -Sean
