From: "A SAD PIXIE....." Subject: INFO?: Gesture recognition + general help... Date: Mon, 17 May 1993 10:14:56 CDT VIRTU-L Hi there! I am interested in research on gesture recognition (both static and dynamic), preferably in low end systems like the PowerGlove, using both traditional statistical and neural net methods of analysis. To save me reinventing a perfectly good wheel, i would be grateful if anyone out there who has had previous experience in this field could email me any useful information (such as previous methods used, problems met and hopefully over come, results of research projects and publicly available computer code if any does exist!). I know that Greg Newby and a few others wrote here last december on the subject, and i am aware of the Italian GLAD project and the german GIVEN project (can anyone supply an email address of Kaisa Vaananen at zgdvda.uucp - the site isn`t connected to uknet). I remember that Diego wrote about a collegue whose report on the subject might have been available. Is this ftp-able anyone? Whilst on the subject, does anyone know of a U.K distributor for the PowerGlove (particulary left handed models) or where there are systems still available? I know this is a much hated question, but could someone please post or email the current location of the Glovelist? (the archive one is incorrect...) Finally, does anyone have a list of sites here in the U.K. that are involved in VR and associated research that they could post? Does anyone here get "Presence", and if so, is there a U.K. distributor? Can anyone post an up to date price list for SGI`s latest VR kit? Thats it, sorry for asking so many different questions! Can i just say congratulations to HIT for running such an informative, interesting and entertaining service - keep up the good work! - in a few short weeks ive found more useful here and in the archives that anywhere else... Hope someone out there can help, David PS - What has/is happening to VPL + J.L. this year after the collapse in dec92?
