Have you read Snow Crash?  The note you posted isn't that far off from
what Snow Crash talks about.  In a nut shell, the book is about the
near future where the two only reliable services are hackers and pizza
delivery.  The protagonist (who's name is Hiro Protagonist) goggles
into a virtual city.  The city exists on the net and everyone rents a
virtual house; when you log in, you start in your house.  There are
clubs and monorails in the virtual city.  when you want to give
something to someone else, you 'hand' them a hypercard stack.  It
looks like a business card but could be anything from a text file to a
whole library.

If you have already read SC, then I just got a good typing workout.
If not, I HIGHLY reccomend it.  Keep me posted.
