From: tchilds@well.sf.ca.us (Timothy Childs) Subject: EVENT: Meckler Party Poop, San Jose, California, May 20, 1993 Date: Tue, 18 May 1993 00:10:18 -0800 VeRGe #6 ... ... will take place at the Meckler VR conference in San Jose on Thursday the 20th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. The topic of this month's meeting with be "The VR Community: Fitting the pieces together" and will meet at a nightclub called Puzzles. Here and abroad, VR is mutating from a technology cherished by a fervent few to one being groked by the masses. As this once tiny industry starts to bloom, many come to taste the nectar of it's many blossoms. Through our daily work, like bees to the flower, we can pollinate each other with ideas, projects and enthusiasm. We are in the Springtime of our industry. In this spirit we offer a celebration. A party to bring members of our community together in a physical space rather than only within the cyberspace we often know each other. A chance to "press the flesh." (Collision detection is extra.) As a small example of how this community can work synergistically, we are proud to announce that the VeRGE event is being sponsored by the following confirmed companies: CyberEdge Journal Avatar Partners BioControl Systems Domark Meckler Sense8 StereoGraphics Straylight/Cyberevent Vivid Group Wired Words Work Worldesign ZXS (more to follow upon final confirmation.) With the greatest of appreciation we thank them all for supporting the VeRGe. To be able to continue bringing you quality meetings in the future, a goal of this party is to raise some much needed funds for VeRGe. As usual, there will be a five dollar donation at the door. VeRGe will supply the food and will have a no host bar. Located across the street from the Fairmont Hotel, within the huge sports-oriented establishment called San Jose Live, Puzzles will be filled with folks, food and fun. Puzzle's number is 408-294-5483. Confirmed entertainment so far is Vivid's Mandala system, Chris Van Raalte's BodySynth, VR demo(s), Velcro suits, videos and more. For you Karaoke fans, Puzzles will turn into a Karaoke bar at 10:30. (too scary!) Directions from the Fairmont: Exit the Fairmont though the East doors (2nd Street). Cross the street and enter the Pavilion shops (outdoor mall). Enter San Jose Live through the center of the Pavilion Shops on the Second Floor. We're just "standing on the VeRGE of getting it on."
