I have been hunting around for cyberspace protocols. I came
across Michael Snoswells "Cyberterm" which was very interesting. Are
there any others floating around on ftp sites?? Also, I can't seem to
mail snoswell. Does anyone have his latest i'net address (if he still
has an account). Also, I belive cyberterm was shareware, anyone know
where I can pick it up?

[I'm not sure about protocol, I believe I saw a Cyberspace Manifesto
floating around the 'net. You might want to take a look at this book

For one of my senior level Electrical engineering classes I
have a semester long project in which I need to build some type of
electronic device. I've been toying with the idea of constructing a
HMD but I have a few questions.
        1) Where would one find color lcd displays used in an HMD?
        2) What kind of 3-d software (public domain) is availible for
        testing the device.

I'm also curious as to what the experts think it would cost to
build a basic HMD (as I am on a limited budget).
There are many more questions I might have in the future, but
these should suffice for now. :)

                Thanks in advance,
                                  Al Dorrington

Hi! Is anyone out there already using Kubota workstations for VR? How
good are they for "our" purposes? I don't want benchmark figures, just
impressions from users... Does anyone know a good "point of contact"
at Kubota to talk a little about these things?

Thanks anyone.

Subject: SPECS: TCP/IP source code

Greetings,
This isn't a directly VR related question, but I was wondering
if anyone has any idea of where I could find source code and
information about programming with the TCP/IP protocol (preferably C
code). My goal is to develope a graphical server for internet
eventually leading into VR apps. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Michael Deering at SUN has a paper in SIGGRAPH (91 or 92?) which
addresses issues here. As I recall, it clarifies some previously
unaddressed problems in stereo geometry and light inside the eye.

I have seen Superscape several times and played with VRT2 for a few
hours once. Going by comments on CDK and the technotes I would say
that Superscape works at a much higher level. CDK is very much bare
bones stuff and requires a lot of programming. Superscape however
requires little or no programming (by programming I mean using their
Superscape Command Language (?)). I saw VRT3 last week and it has
been extended considerably, mainly in the SCL area and I believe in
the software developers kit, a C library that allows you to do the
same as SCL and more.

If you want realistic rendering then Superscape won't be much use.
They have added simple texturing in VRT3 but as far as I know anything
that isn't textured is flat shaded. It is a pretty neat system all
the same. If only the rendering were better...

3D Studio will give you good realistic renderings if you can wait.
All animation in 3D Studio (I have experience in version 1.5 only) is
done using keyframing which can be very time consuming depending on
what you want to do. For walkthroughs specifying a path is quite
simple and quick to do. You can also set 3DS running in "batch mode"
to render each frame and then quickly load the images off disk to give
pseudo-realtime animation. I think this is what PhotoVR does (they
are in Spectrum Dynamics catalogue (?)). 3D Studio in conjunction
with CDK might be more useful...

Sense8 seems to fall inbetween VRT3 and CDK. Rendering depends entirely
on the platform you run it on.
