From: avatarp@well.sf.ca.us (Peter Rothman) Subject: EVENT: VeRGe 11.0 - San Francisco Organization: The Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link, Sausalito, CA Keywords: EVENT Summary: The 11th meeting of the Bay Area VeRGe group Presenting VeRGe 11.0 Demystifying Spatialized Audio In a virtual world, silence is *not* golden. Join us at the Exploratorium on Monday, November 22, at 7 p.m., to learn about spatialized sound, its implementation in VR systems and its impact upon VR applications. Our guest speakers are audio experts who will help you understand the issues and challenges of 3D sound technologies. The meeting will feature presentations by 3D audio experts Durrand Begault of NASA Ames Research Center and William Martens of the Joint E-Mu/Creative Technology Center. Their collective aim for the evening is to begin to "demystify spatial audio." Dr. Begault will focus on 3D audio for headphone applications, while Dr. Martens will focus on the spatial imagery associated with loudspeaker reproduction. Don't forget to bring your 3D glasses (or use those we provide) because the evening will include a stereographic slide show in which the acoustics underlying spatial audio will be explored through 3D visualizations of Head-Related Transfer Functions or HRTFs. As always, we request a $5 donation at the door. For directions to the Exploratorium from your location call 415-561-0399.
