From: SIR P/L Subject: TECH: Tracking idea Organization: University of New South Wales Keywords: HMD TRACKING tracking My dads radio controlled helicopter has a gyro in it that controls the rear rotor. Would it not be easy to go to a model shop, buy on of these succers, rip it to bits, and plug it into a joystick port ? (you might need 3 of these to do all directions though). Also, dads submarine has a dampened hydroplane controller, which measures the angle of the sub and controlls the rear hydroplane to keep it level. Once again, you could buy these, hack (pardon the pun) into them, and ... instant tracking. Both devices seem simple to me, both are highly accurate, and they both have output directly to a servo - which should be real simple to A/D into a PC. (Analogue to digial, I mean). Also - I bought a $100 laser. How about using a room covered in photodiodes and sticking the lazer on your head? (or torch, or whatever) Let me know if anyone has success with these ideas. Chris.
