From: Mike Gigante Subject: Re: DESIGN: VR Interaction Mechanisms Organization: Collaborative Information Technology Research Institute We have built an application called VR Designer which is used for architectural design. The application is built on top of a framework specifically designed to support intuitive simple interaction. The framework is called PHIVE, (PHysically-based Interaction in Virtual Environments), it supports real-time collision detection of concave polygonal objects, rigid body motion, sound, protocols for multi-person operation etc. PHIVE is described in the paper: Gigante, M., Webb, R. "Distributed, Multi-Person, Physically-Based Interaction in Virtual Environments" Proceedings of Computer Graphics International '93 (Ed: Daniel Thalmann, Publisher: Springer Verlag, Tokyo) Lausanne, Switzerland The main premise is that behavioural realism is a key to natural, interaction that has low cognitive overheads.
