From: Carl Loeffler Subject: EVENT: Virtual Ancient Egypt, CMU Oct. 23, 1993 Organization: Studio for Creative Inquiry, Carnegie Mellon, Pittsburgh, PA Announcing: During the coming months, Carl Eugene Loeffler, Project Director, Telecommunications and Virtual Reality, STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, Carnegie Mellon University, will conduct the following select activities: Sponsored by Intel Corporation Loeffler will present ~Virtual Ancient Egypt,~ at the exhibition ~Virtual Reality: Emerging Medium,~ to he held at the Guggenheim Museum, New York. Opening October 23, 1993. ~Virtual Ancient Egypt,~ is a reconstruction of the Temple of Edfu. The application is a joint effort involving Loeffler and Lynn Holden, Research Fellow, STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, Carnegie Mellon University. Following, at Virtual Reality Vienna-93, he will present the premier of ~Virtual Polis.~ People from three different locations, including Pittsburgh, Tokyo and Vienna - VRV'93, will be inhabitants of a virtual city, as a dynamic example of networked virtual reality. They explore a city that is sound intensive, inclusive of high-rise buildings, private domiciles and a park. Tele-existence is an essential aspect. Date: December 1, 1993. Loeffler is an invited lecturer to the ~Virtual Reality Symposium,~ organized by Advanced Telecommunication Research (ATR), Kyoto, Japan. And an invited speaker to Imagina, Monte-Carlo, France. Final note: Carl Eugene Loeffler is recently appointed a visiting Senior Scientist to the Center of Technology at Kjeller (UNIK/University of Oslo and Norwegian Telecom Research) Oslo, Norway. He will conduct joint research with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA.
