From: Kenneth Pimentel Subject: INFO: Sense8's WTK on SGI Indy > On a similar vein, has anyone at Sense8 got specs for the SGI version > of WTK running on an Indy? How does it compare with a 486/66VL with 2 > SPEA Fire boards? Which system would be a better buy (ignoring crumby > PC architecture, etc.)? Since the SGi Indy is really no different than an R4000 Indigo (in terms of 3D graphics performance), you can expect similar numbers (about 10k shaded polys/sec and 1200 textured polys/sec). If you want to work with textures, then it is no contest - the SPEA Fire board can deliver 7k textured polys/sec at 24 bits. A 486-66 w/Fire board should cost you about $4.5k. If you can live with a DOS environment and need real-time texture-mapping the choice is clear. If you want a mult-window Unix development environment then go with the Indy.
