From: Kenneth Nemire Subject: TECH : TiNi/Mondo-tronics tactor Organization: NETCOM On-line Communication Services (408 241-9760 guest) Keywords: tactile stimulation I have a single tactor connected to the electronics box supplied by Mondo-tronics. We successfully pulsed the tactor from a PC. We have not had success from an SGI Indigo and would appreciate information from someone who has. We first made a new cable (mini-DIN8 to 1/8 inch stereo plug) to connect the tactor's e-box to the Indigo. We used fopen() to open the port, and fprintf() to write different character data to the port. We obtained different results from the tactor/e-box depending on what character was sent (on the PC, any character results in the same pulse). We finally settled on sending a (decimal) 0 followed by a 7 to get a single pulse of fairly strong strength (sending other characters resulted in multiple or no pulses). Unfortunately, the pulse we getis unreliable. Does anyone have a better understanding of this device or any suggestions for improving its performance from an Indigo? Ken Nemire knemire@netcom.com
