From: BOB@advanced-robotics-research-centre.salford.ac.uk Subject: APPS: VR for Post-Operative Recovery Dear Colleagues Does anyone out there have any concrete evidence (or genuine contact names) relating to some VR work we in Europe occasionally get rumours of? Basically, I was told some time ago that, somewhere in the States, the application of VR to enhancing the post-operative recovery process was being researched. You know the sort of thing...immersion within a world of peaceful country scenes, Vivaldi playing in the background, 3D bird song, inhalation of synthetic cut-grass odours, etc., etc. Actually, my reason for asking is that, surprisingly, there appears to be some serious interest in this use of VR in the UK (although where the money is coming from, goodness only knows). If anyone can provide me with a contact, and/or references to published papers, I'd be very grateful. Many thanks Bob Stone Technical Manager (ARRL) Visiting Professor of VR (University of Salford)
