Description: The Systems Administrator is responsible for the support of users, hardware and software in a networked computing environment. Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HITL) conducts research on human-computer interfaces, with an emphasis on Virtual Reality (VR) technologies. At present, the computing environment at HITL consists of approximately 20 Macintoshes, 5PCs, and 30 UNIX based platforms, and is growing rapidly. This position directly supports the research mission of HITL, as well as training and administrative functions. Since specific functions will vary, flexibility and adaptability to new and changing requirements is essential. Requires: Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience is necessary. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to solve problems independently. Must be responsive to user needs. Must have significant experience administering networked multi-vendor UNIX, Macintosh, and PC platforms. Programming experience in C is mandatory, as well as shell script programming and Perl.
