The rumour I heard was that the headset (cheap, single display
monocular) includes a dongle-type thing which software written to use
the helmet must be able to communicate with.  One of the things this
is supposed to do is to force software to terminate after 15 mins of
continuous play, so that none of those nasty things everyone's scared
of can happen through extended use.

Unless the specs for the dongle thing are released (or reverse
engineered) I doubt much hacking will be possible.  B-(
