From: David Waller Subject: TECH: Recommendations for VR software Date: Wed, 24 Jul 1996 16:09:33 -0700 Organization: University of Washington Our lab is in the process of researching software for creating virtual environments. We'll be modeling fairly simple environments and are working under a pretty limiting budget (we have ca. $2000 to spend). We expect that the people using the software and creating the environments will be relatively naive about VR, but that they will have a general background which includes programming in C. I'm interested in what kinds of software you might recommend for us. In particular, I need to know if most of the available packages for us (such as World Took Kit or Vream) come as complete packages. Is it typical for this sort of software to assume that the geometry of the world has been pre-defined in some other application, or will these packages allow us to build the geometry of a world from scratch? Thanks in advance for any information or advice you can provide. Regards, Dave dwaller@u.washington.edu
