You see, the problem is not about being able to show objects at a given distance. It's a problem of visual fatigue and other such side effects. This is because generating such pairs of 2D pictures to recreate a 3D depth causes some problems to the human visual system. This problem is equally present for conventional HMD and augmented reality HMD helmets. These 2D images are displayed at a _fixed_ focal distance even if they represent a variable 3D depth scene. What happens if you display(physically, i.e. the focus of the optical system in your HMD) the 2D images at infinity while representing an object 3 meters away? The convergence and accommodation of your eyes don't match. This is a real problem. My goal is to determine the degree of importance of such conflict between these two parameters.
