Subject: EVENT: VeRGe Event--Agents and Avatars Part II Sept. 26th.
Date: Wed, 25 Sep 1996 13:15:27 +0200

The Virtual Reality Education Foundation (affectionately known as
VeRGe) invites you to attend the second event in a two-part series:

"Agents, Avatars, and the Digital Self:
In Cyberspace, Who Will YOU Be? [Chapter II]"

THURSDAY, September 26, 1996 (Full Moon!)
7:00 pm *****PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN TIME*****
    Exploratorium, San Francisco
    requested donation, $5

********Please note the time change. We want to start earlier so
we can have a bit more time for announcements and the all important power
schnack and schmooze during the break.*********

The next VeRGe on Thursday, September 26, at the Exploratorium's
McBean Theater, will be the second of our two-part series on agents
and avatars. Part I offered a technical focus on avatar creation
tools and publishers, and Part II will focus on the philosophical
aspects, including the need for standards.

This full moon event is sure to get the community howling over the
great work that has been poured into the different Avatar
specifications. There are two different, yet potentially
complementary, Avatar specifications being proposed to you, the VR
community, for your scrutiny, input, suggestions and ideas. You will
be introduced to the Living Worlds Avatar spec--supported by Paragraph
(http://www.paragraph.com ), Blacksun ( http://www.blacksun.com ) and
Sony (http://www.sony.com )--and to the Universal Avatar spec from IBM
(http://www.ibm.com ), Velocitygames ( http://www.velocitygames.com ),
Chaco ( http://www.chaco.com) and Worlds ( http://www.worlds.net ) You
can check out the Universal Avatar spec prior to the meeting at
http://www.chaco.com/avatar/avatar.html. Following the presentations,
you will have an opportunity to participate in asking those thoughtful
questions during the panel discussion. The panel will consist of the
previous presenters as well as leading VRML developers.

So come on down to the Exlporatorium and participate, again, in a historical
event.

Did someone say demo?

It wouldn't be a VeRGe without demos. The busy folks from the
ImagiNation Network ( http://www.inngames.com ) will demonstrate
CyberPark, their multi-user 3-D virtual world to be launched on AOL
later this year.

3rd Dimension Technologies ( http://www.3dexpress.com ) will be wowing
you with their 3-D modeling tool that create fully textured 3-D models
directly from a few photographs!

Plus extra special surprises!

VeRGe Netcast

For those who can't physically attend VeRGe, once again, we will
netcast this event live from the Exlporatorium via CU-SeeMe. You can
get the appropriate software and information on how to hook up from
the Cornell's CU-SeeMe page. ( http://cu-seeme.cornell.edu/ ) On
Thursday, please check out
http://www.well.com/~tchilds/verge/netcast.html for the appropriate
reflector address(es).

Volunteers--do your part!
VeRGe needs your help! We need help with a lots of stuff. Besides the need
for volunteers to help with the meetings, we need volunteers for:

Netcasting--We need someone who is very familiar with cybercasting
(CU-SeeMe, MBONE, RealAudio, etc..) to help manage and promote the cybercast
events.

Videographers--We need skilled folks with video cameras (HI-8 or better) to
help document the events. (We would eventually like to fulfill the many
requests for videos from the events.)

If you can help, contact Timothy via email (timothy@verge.org) at the show.
