                                PRESENTATION
                        
These last years have seen the multiplication of 3D images due to the
development and improvement of new acquisition devices (CT-Scan, MR,
3D ultrasound, confocal microscopy, seismic imagery, Cyberware range
laser, etc.)  in several application fields (medicine, molecular
biology, geology, indu stry, paleontology, etc.).  Such 3D images are
very large, difficult to interac t with, and contain very complex
non-polyhedral structures.  In order to ob tain precise and reliable
results within a reasonable computation time, 3D ima ge processing
algorithms are very often based on "models", i.e., simplified and
synthetic representations of complex entities.

This workshop will be an opportunity to gather people from different
fiel ds (Computer Vision, Medical Imaging, Industry, etc.) to present
their resea rch and results, to exchange ideas, and to discuss
model-based 3D image analy sis.  There are three main axes for the
workshop:

     * Design of a model. What to model? Mathematical formulations? How to
infer model parameters from a database?

              Geometry Modeling
              Shape Modeling
              Physical Modeling
              Mechanical Modeling
              Motion/Deformation Modeling
              Morphometric Tools
              Atlas Construction
              Deformable Models
              Virtual Worlds
              ...

     * Utilization of a model. How to use the model to represent structures as
well as their properties?

              Model-Based Segmentation
              Model-Based Matching and Tracking
              Model-Guided Registration
              Physical Simulation
              Morphometric Analysis
              Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality
              ...

     * Applications. Examples of concrete implementations of model-based 
3D image analysis. 

              Medicine (representation of anatomical knowledge, planning,
 assisted diagnosis, surgery simulation, etc)
              Molecular Biology (3D substructure matching of proteins, etc)
              Geology (extraction of rifts in seismic images, etc)
              Industry (non destructive control quality, reverse engineering, etc)
              Paleontology (study of fossil evolution, etc)
              ...

The workshop will be composed of 16 oral presentations of 20-minutes
and a key note talk given by an authoritative person of the
field. Texts of present ations will be published in proceedings that
will be available for the workshop.

                            SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Paper submission will be in the definitive format of publication in proce
edings:

        * 8 pages including figures and references.
	* IEEE conference style (print area of 17.5 cm wide by 22.53
cm high, 2 columns, 10-point Times font, single spaced). (Latex style
is available from the Web page). 
        * in addition, a summary page describing originality, importance,
relation to other work should be included. 

The papers will be reviewed by 3 people from the Program Committee.

5 copies of papers must be sent to one of the two co-chairs before
Friday , 29 August.
